Happy Fat Tuesday!
Just dropping in to wish you all a Happy Fat Tuesday. I'm thinking today of the happy times I spent enjoying Mardi Gras when I lived in Gulfport, Mississippi -- a city largely destroyed by Katrina last year. I know this day is bringing mixed feelings to almost everyone along the gulf coast, but there's happiness to be had today, too -- celebrating the survival of so many previous lives and the rebuilding of our beautiful cities and towns.
For those observing Ash Wednesday tomorrow, may it be a blessed day for you.

Request For Crossed Fingers
I sent off a query today for a story I've been working on that may or may not lead to big things, and I am sooooo nervous about it. Can you guys cross your fingers for me? Hell, cross your toes, too, while you're at it.
Could I be any more nervous?

Tagged!
I was tagged by Lisa Renee Jones, so here goes:
So the theme '7 things'...Here you go:
Seven things to do before I die: 1. Figure myself out 2. Read the complete works of Shakespeare 3. Study Talmud 4. Learn to love and accept my appearance, flaws and all 5. Make enough money from writing to support myself 6. Take a limo ride that's not connected to a funeral 7. Learn a dead language, just because
Seven things I cannot do: 1. Deny myself...life is too hard to starve or diet. 2. Stop my book buying habit. Whether it's romance ebooks or nonfiction print, I am a total bookaholic. 3. Maintain a neat and tidy home...I'm chronically disorganized, and I hate it 4. Math. 5. Stop cussing...I fuckin' love the F word. 6. Deal with medical problems. I worry constantly over the health of my loved ones, and have a severe phobia of doctors, hospitals, vet clinics, and all other medical facilities. 7. Behave myself. I have a taste for shocking and taboo subjects, as well as a little exhibitionist streak.
Seven things that attract me to my mate:
I'm currently single, so I'll list 7 qualities I find attractive...
1- Maturity. This cannot be said enough. 2- Open mindedness. 3- A willingness to experiement, to try new things. 4- Compassion 5- Giving, open with his feelings 6- Good in bed, can I say that? 7- Able to tolerate all my craziness
Seven things I say: 1. "How [blank] was that?" (how good, how messed up, how bad, etc) 2. "Yada, yada, yada." 3. The aforementioned F word 4. Please... (said with a sarcastic inflection) 5. "I'm getting older here..." (this said during a long wait for something) 6. "We are so screwed." 7. "Me? Not so much."
Seven books I love: 1. Endless Love by Scott Spencer 2. The Sookie Stackhouse Series by Charlaine Harris 3. The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice 4. The Blue Castle by L.M. Montgomery 5. The Joy Of Cooking 6. Simple Abundance 7. Romancing The Ordinary
Seven movies that I've loved: 1. Before Sunrise 2. Before Sunset 3. Titanic 4. Sixteen Candles 5. The Breakfast Club 6. Sense & Sensibility 7. Emma

Readers Speak Out
I've so enjoyed reading what you guys have had to say about the kinds of pairings you enjoy and don't enjoy in erotic romance. There's nothing I enjoy more, as a writer, than connecting with readers and hearing their thoughts about my genre.
Jenny mentioned anal sex in one of her posts. Now, as anyone who's read a few of my books knows, I tend to be, uh...friendly to that particular act. And since at least one half of my couples are always a paranormal or mythical creature, I've never used condoms in my stories.
What do you guys think of these topics? Also, is there any paranormal theme you feel is overdone? Likewise, any theme you'd like to see more of?
I may turn this into Readers Speak Out! week here on the blog. Don't forget, posting in the comments enters you in next Monday's drawing!

Vampire Hotties! Day #3
Today's collection of vampire hotties features none other than that most notorious blood sucker of all time. Before there was Lestat or Spike or any of those pretenders to the throne, there was the one and only Count Dracula.
Countless films have been made about Dracula, and today I bring you three interpretations of old Drac himself. Which one could rattle your coffin? Post in the comments, and remember, the drawing for a grab bag of prizes is tomorrow!
Big ups to Jamie's Spawn for suggesting this edition of vampire hotties!
Now, onto the candidates...

Bela Lugosi, the man who made Dracula a household name...

Gary Oldman, who brought steam to Braham Stoker's Dracula...

Or Gerard Butler in Dracula 2000?
And yes, you're sensing a trend with the Gerard Butler fetish. What can I say? The man is hot!
Now, vote!

Death Match!! #3
Yesterday's death match was a knockout punch for the artist formerly known as Johnny Bravo. Greg Brady slammed one out of the park, bringing rival Danny Partridge a crushing defeat. So, for all you Greg fans out there, here's a little jailbird eyecandy to reward your loyalty.

Now, on with today's Death Match!!
Since it's Vampire Hotties week, we're celebrating all creatures of the night. Which brings us to today's contenders, two dueling divas of darkness!
Which gothic goddess will walk away with today's title? Will it be...

Lily Munster?...

...Or Morticia Addams?
Which nocturnal nymph rules all? Cast your vote in the comments!

(Not Quite) Vampire Hotties! Day 2
Ok, so he's not technically a vamp, but no one can deny the sheer gothic appeal of the phantom. He's a creature of the night, evoking dark and forbidden fantasies, surrounding himself with a fog of mystery and sexual magnetism -- a perfect fit in vampire hotties week.
Which of these three phantoms could be your angel of music?

Lon Chaney, the original silent film phantom?...

Michael Crawford, Broadway's most legendary phantom?...

Or Gerard Butler, phantom of the box office?
Which one would you choose to share the music of the night?

Death Match Totals So Far
Godzilla appears to be a slam-dunk, taking an uncontested lead in the Death Match polls. Mothra lags behind...could he be the dark horse in this race? Mothra is a compact killing machine, more primative and less refined than the overhyped Godzilla.
Personally, I think he's a badass mutha.

Passing The Tiara
Dakota, will you accept this tiara on behalf of erotic romance readers everywhere? I thought a rosy hole was the thing Alice fell into during her trip to Wonderland. Cream...you either put it on your face, straight from the jar, or skim it from the top of a pail of milk to make a tasty whipped dessert topping.
Jism? Someone actually put that in a book?
So glad I'd finished my mashed potatoes and milk gravy before reading this...
Come on, everybody -- show Dakota some love!

Nothing says lovin' like Cool Whip
Um, not. LOLLOL
You'll see what I mean down below.
Okay, so Alecia asked me to come guest blog. I was thrilled, honored, thought I might get another tiara as payment for it.
I still am not the proud recipient of something shiny and BIG. Hmmmmm.
I'm joking, I swear, even IF a tiara would have been a KIND gesture. LOL
Alecia is a new author at Changeling Press. She writes GOOD books. Everyone says so. Good books I haven't read, but SWEAR on all things erotica, I WILL. The moment I have a lunch break. I sure hope she hasn't used the words I'm about to crack on. She won't invite me back. I'll be mocked publicly. That would make me sad.
But remember, this is simply one scribe's personal op. NOT ALECIA'S. LOLLOL
So, anyway, she said she wanted me to come guest blog and I thought, "YAY! Sure, I can do that." Then I thought, blog about WHAT? I'm terribly boring. LMAO
However, yesterday, I was reading a book and it was okay, ya know? It was an erotic romance, but just okay. Here's why it was just okay. The words this author used weren't terribly erotic to me. They kinda grossed me out. I don't normally let that bother me, but as a writer, I try to use words that will appeal, woo, coax you into a love/slobbering/frothing at the mouth sex scene. No matter how hot and heavy, down and dirty it gets.
So, that led me to think about this blog. I want to know what words make you wanna hock up a lugi when you read erotic romance. I'm going to tell you some of mine. You may not agree, but they're words that trigger the euuuuuww in me. So too bad. LOLLOL
Okay--first up--DICK. Okay, look, give the guy a break, would ya? Why would you use the word dick, a perfectly good male name, in an erotic romance. What about that says HOT to you? He slipped his dick between her big, juicy lips? I like cock, shaft, hard length, Magic Johnson, mighty fuckstick or any derivative thereof. LOL. Actually, I only use cock, hard length or shaft, but I do crack wise when it comes to a guys package in a book.
Next--CREAM. Look, if you're chick is creaming, CALL THE OBGYN. Get some Monistat 7 and USE IT. I realize a bodily fluid must be represented in a "nice" way, but does it have to be associated with a bucket of cool whip? Er, bleh. I was once a reviewer and this one heroine creamed SO MUCH, she must have needed some pie to go with it. Do women as a whole "cream"? Well, I dunno. I've seen some stuff that would speak to that theory online, but more than likely, it's not nearly as prevalent as moisture is. One can depict lust in a woman quite nicely with a different word. Like I said, that's just me. You might enjoy Cool Whip with your erotic adventures :)
Tits--Okay, I cannot get past the high school memories of this. Some dumb assed football player yelling to his stupid friends, "Nice tits!" Cows have tits, dogs have 'em too. I have BREASTS. They may not be all that they once were when they were called tits, but I like breast much better. You may well like your hooters called tits. Me--not so much. LOLLOL
Cum--Sigh. I come. My characters come. I know there's a huge debate on using it as a verb, but, something about that words just screams, PORN. Penthouse Forum too. Which is a perfectly fine forum for a little slap and tickle, but I really prefer a romantic encounter to involve coming, release, relief ORGASM. Again, that's just me. I refuse to cum and you can't make me. LMAO
Rosy hole. Um, okay, I'm gonna give it to ya straight. There ain't NUTHIN' rosy about that place I prefer to use as an EXIT ONLY. I know, I know, it has to be prettied up, but GAK, it ain't pretty. LOLLOL
Jiz or Jism--rhymes with prism. Such a pretty word to rhyme with one that just ain't. You know it, I know it. Sperm is not a lot of fun. Sperm smells kinda icky. In fact, it smells like you're doing your laundry. I can't get hot over my laundry. LOL. I hear it varies in men and me, being the dimwit who has little experience can tell you--smells like you're doing your laundry. You can dump your seed, jerk the old baloney pony, but I'm begging you--NO jisim-ing. Snort
Vagina--See OBGYN. That's what they call it. If the hero is telling you he wants to stick his dick in your creamy vagina and suck on your tits so you'll cum, run far--run fast--run AWAY. LOLLOLLOLLOL. I use cunt and pussy. Some hate the word cunt. It has a mean spirited connotation, they say. Me,? I can't say it out loud. I blush, I cringe, but I can write the hell out of it.
Snatch--Snatch this, fucktard! Referring to a woman's love nest as a snatch is just downright insulting. If we could SNATCH, we'd be a Venus flytrap. LOLLOL
Penis--sigh. I have nothing else to say. Again, see your physician.
Buttocks- I can't stop thinking about Forest Gump and the way he said, But-tahhcks and it makes me giggle every time. LMAO. It's an ass. But this one doesn't trouble me like the rest.
Now, I'm sure some of you will disagree, in fact, I KNOW you will, but s'ok. I can have an op too. See me stick my tongue out at you. And Alecia DID invite me to blog, so we'll blame any backlash on her. LOLLOL
Tell me what words you HATE? What really ooks ya out. Cuz then, I'll write a book with ALL of them in it. LOLLOL
Dakota :)

Post Superbowl Wrapup
Is it a sign of my advanced age that I'm glad MTV no longer produces the Superbowl halftime show? With all due respect to Nelly, Britney, Xtina et al, I've kind of enjoyed the last two years of classic acts like Paul McCartney and The Stones.
Which is, of course, proof of my geriatric status.
Anyway. The best thing about football is the food, and I had plenty of that. Texas style vegetarian chili with tons of shredded cheese topping and hot sauce, brownies ala mode, pizza, you name it.
What's your favorite football food? Post in the comments to enter my weekly drawing for prizes!

From Today's Guest Blogger, Delilah Devlin

Today's guest blogger is Ellora's Cave author Delilah Devlin. Here's an excerpt from her latest release, "Ride A Cowboy." You can find it here or by visiting her site.
Enjoy!
He raised his head, dragging in a deep breath. “I should go.”
“Yes, you should,” she whispered, staring into his heated gaze. Katelyn stood at a crossroads, her destination hers alone to choose. Her body yearned for more of his soft caresses, but she wasn’t sure she was strong enough not to want more.
Contrary to what her mind was thinking, she lifted her hand and placed it on his chest, molding her palm to fit the curve of hard muscle that flexed as she caressed.
His body went rigid beneath her touch. “Be sure,” he rasped, his chest rising and falling faster.
Be sure? Kate wasn’t sure of anything except she needed to be touched, filled—by Daniel. Katelyn stepped closer, aligning herself, chest to hip with his body. In an instant, stinging delight drew her nipples into tighter, distended points. She swallowed and lifted her gaze to his. “This doesn’t mean a thing,” she said, her voice tight. “I don’t want you to tell me sweet lies and this isn’t about forever.”
His nostrils flared and his head dipped, his lips hovering above hers. “Katelyn darlin’, who said anything about forever? What about just having fun?”
Torn between excitement and a dampening, perverse disappointment, Katelyn rose on her toes to close the distance between their mouths. This is what I want—all I want.
She believed the lie when his hands closed around her hips to hold her still while he pressed the ridge growing beneath his zipper into her belly. She rose higher, straining closer to his hardness.
He broke the kiss and pushed her away, his gaze burning. “Turn around and face the wall.”
Katelyn’s eyes widened and her body thrilled to the curtness of his tone. She thought she’d craved a softer, more romantic joining all these years, but the electric excitement, prickling every erogenous zone she possessed, said her body was delighted at his coarse command. With deliberate, breathless slowness, she turned away.
“Put your hands against the wall.” His voice was closer, stirring her hair.
Katelyn shivered and braced her hands against the wall, and then waited, her heart pounding so hard she heard her own heartbeat in her ears. The tips of her breasts pressed achingly against her bra. Moisture dampened the crotch of her panties.
She jerked when his hands gripped the notches of her hips and a leg slipped between hers. He nudged her feet, one at a time, until they were shoulder-width apart.
Her breaths were shallow, her excitement rising. Although fully clothed, every part of her was accessible, open for him to explore. Where will he start? Should I tell him where I need his touch next? Instead, she bit her lip.
Daniel’s hands slid around her belly and slipped beneath her T-shirt. The heat from his palms and the scrape of his calluses set her stomach quivering.
“Easy now,” he whispered, his body pressing closer to her back. His fingers found the clasp of her bra and opened it. The cups parted over her breasts, and in the next breath he held both mounds, squeezing her gently.
Katelyn moaned and pressed harder into his hands, gasping when he thumbed an aching nipple. Her head fell back against his shoulder and his lips slid along her cheek to her jaw and neck as he massaged her breasts, kneading until she whimpered, weak with delight.
“Easy,” he whispered. One hand slid down her belly to the waistband of her shorts and his fingers crept under the waistband, flattening against her stomach until he reached the top of her curls.
His hand rubbed in drugging circles, until she thought she’d scream if he didn’t reach deeper. “Please, please, touch me,” she whispered.
“Yes, ma’am.” The snap opened and the zipper rasped, and then his fingers slid inside her shorts to cover her sex. His fingers swirled in the wetness seeping from within her, and one long, thick finger slipped between her lips to push just an inch inside her pussy.
Katelyn’s whole body trembled and her knees gave way. If not for the arm clamped around her belly, she’d have melted to the floor.
“Tell me what you want,” he said, his voice harsh now.
A question she’d never been asked and hadn’t the capability to answer, she was so carried away with the feelings swamping her body and mind. A strangled, “Inside me,” was all she could manage.
“Put your foot up on the box.”
“Box?” she parroted and looked down, surprised to see the wooden case with her silverware on the floor. She lifted a foot and the distance and angle of her stance opened her further.
His fingers reached deeper into her clothing. Katelyn sucked in a breath and her belly, dying by inches for him to touch the part of her that wept and clenched.
Fingers combed through the short curls, tugging gently, easing, then tugging harder, until her abdomen trembled again.
“Like that, do you?” he rumbled.
